Mr. Bingi had then used all the money in schooling his son through all the levels of education. When he was young, Mbaku had wished to join the military. He liked the colour of the uniform and the status attached to the job. Titles like Lieutenant, Colonel, Major, senior Superintendent, Sergeant and so on flattered him. But after hearing from the horror mouth about the challenges and the trauma thereafter, he changed mind and chose Law.
Like Military, there are also titles associated with law like justice, Senior Counsel, Your Honour. He looked forward to being Senior Counsel Mbaku. He worked hard night and day to achieve his dream. In his final exams, he got a high grade which made his quality to pursue Law in a top university in the country. His parents were of course happy and worked hard to make it happen.
“I’m going to take Legum Baccalaureus in the University!”
“Come on Mba what’s Legim Baccalini?”
His girlfriend Regi was lost.
“OK, for your case it’s LL. B or just Law.”
Mbaku offered explanation as if he was an associate professor in the faculty of Law.
Regi was proud that Mba is going to a prestigious university to take a very coveted course. But then she fears that Mba would be snatched away from him by the mischievous campus ladies. She knows Mba loves her but a thought of city girls exposing their white thighs is too tempting for any men.
“Always remember what you promised me at the river bank.”
Regi was in tears when she remembered how their romance started.
“Stop crying, I’ll be true to you always and I’ll keep the promises.”
Mba tried to be calm but a tremor in his voice sold him off.
